Advice We Can Give to Girls We Work With Regarding Sexual Harrassment

Denise Chrisman

  • Tell someone and keep telling until you find someone who believes you.

  • Advise her the behavior is NOT HER FAULT. The blame should not be placed on her.

  • Encourage her to keep a written record of all the incidents as they occur. Record the time and date as well as the incident. Keep any notes or pictures from the harasser.

  • Find out who is responsible at school for taking complaints. Take a parent or friend to the meeting when you report the behavior.

  • Make your displeasure known to the harasser. Make it clear you do not like the behavior.

  • Teach her she has a right to file a federal claim if the school does not react to her complaint.
