Activities for Families

What exactly do we mean by parental involvement?

Why are all our parents "burned out"?

Many times workers don't understand why the parents of the youth appear as if they simply don't care. It may be time to stop at this point and consider what this family has been through. Have there been problems and turmoil in this family? Problems have probably been present long before any "professionals" ever got involved. Does the family know how to participate? What are the family stressors? What has the family experienced in the past when dealing with professionals? Were they active in involvement or were they simply expected to agree with what ever the "professionals" said was needed. These are all important questions to ask to determine what approach needs to be taken to encourage family involvement.
