This
activity will provide knowledge for girls regarding a career they are
interested in and it will also enhance social skills.
Any opportunity
we can provide for girls to interact in appropriate ways with others
will build strength in their social skills. This activity also provides
opportunity to address appropriate questions vs. inappropriate, acceptable
behaviors, and practice active listening. By reviewing this information
beforehand, we can "teach" as opposed to "correct"
the behaviors that need attention.
Have the
girls interview women in a career field they are interested in. Help
them write questions for the interview. Review the questions with them
and use this time to address any inappropriate questions that might
arise.
Sample
questions:
- How
many years of college have you completed?
- How
many hours weekly do you work?
- What
is the biggest challenge about your job?
- Is your
job flexible with family time?
- What
is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
- Why
did you choose this job?
- Are
you happy with your choice?
- If you
could change one thing about your job, what would it be?
- Have
them create a few of their own questions.
