Mock Interview

Economic Wisdom for the Next Generation

Interviewing can be a very scary process. Fortunately, with a little practice you can master the art of remaining cool in these potentially stressful situations. You will need to interview for jobs, internships, college, and even some college scholarships. Have fun with it, it is a little like acting - you need to present the calm, cool, and collected you even though your heart is racing a mile a minute and your stomach is doing somersaults.

Directions

  1. Read the Mock Interview Questions (PDF).
  2. The first time you read them, read them quickly to familiarize yourself with the types of questions. The next time you read them, spend some time thinking about your responses. Write your answers in a notebook.
  3. Arrange a time for a mock interview with someone. They may even be able to ask you a few surprise questions since most interviewers ask a few surprise questions.
  4. Remember to dress as if this is an actual interview.
  5. Familiarize yourself with the interview tips below.
  6. Try to arrange to have the mock interview videotaped. This will allow you to see how you respond in interview situations.

Interviewing tips

  • Dress appropriately and make sure your hair is away from your face.
  • Arrive a few minutes early to allow yourself time to relax.
  • Greet the interviewer with a firm handshake.
  • Think about any questions you may have for the interviewer. An interview is also a time for you to get answers
  • Write thank you notes to each person with whom you interviewed.
