Cost for Baby

Denise Chrisman

Financial planning for new baby…

This activity exposes girls to the cost of preparing for a newborn baby.

Have her total the cost of a new layette for a newborn. She can use newspapers, sales papers, magazines, etc. Some items can be purchased at garage sales but remind her she may not find everything she needs and the items may not meet current recommended safety standards.

  • Crib
  • Crib Bumpers
  • Sheets
  • Blankets
  • Car Seat
  • Stroller
  • High Chair
  • Diapers
  • Sleepers
  • Onsies
  • Socks
  • Outfits
  • Bottles
  • Formula
  • Toys

Be sure to remind the participants that this is just set up cost. Some of these items will need to be replenished or replaced (Formula, larger clothes). Also discuss childcare cost per month. Be sure to compare these cost with an average salary of a teen mother.
