Interview New Mom

Denise Chrisman

A very effective way to allow girls to see what having a baby in their lives involves is to link them to someone with a baby under six months old. Have them interview the new mother and hear the reality of being responsible for that adorable bundle of joy…

Help her create a list of questions to ask as she interviews the new mom.

Include questions about the change in their social life, financial stressors, finding childcare providers who are trustworthy, loss of sleep, loss of personal time, doctor's appointments, etc.

Include questions that address the physical stressors, the emotional stressors and the financial stressors. Have her compare the new mom's life before motherhood and after motherhood…

Talking to someone going through the stressors of a new family is an effective way to introduce this. If her life is different than the life of the new mom, be sure to note that. (Example, interviewed mom is married, she is single. Interviewed mom completed school, she has not finished yet)
