Relaxation Techniques

Remind yourself girls are stressed. It may be impossible for them to focus on what you want them to focus on. If you find yourself in a situation where she just can't seem to calm down, you may want to try some relaxation techniques with her. These can also be helpful if you are doing a group and need to get them focused. These techniques can be taught and therefore can be useful to her when you are not around.

Deep Breathing
Angela Monroe
Goodbye Cinderella Program

Deep, rhythmic breathing is the easiest and most reliable way to begin relaxing. Whenever you breathe in or hold your breath, you increase tension in your body. As you breathe out, your body automatically release tensions and, in the pause before you inhale, relaxes naturally. Deep Breathing takes concentration and practice to be effective.

Inhaling through your nose - One - two - three - four

Hold it - One - two

Now exhale One -two-three - four.

Repeat.

You should feel your chest expand. You should also imagine the tension leaving your body as you exhale.
