Teen Central
The
objective of this activity is to teach girls about drug and alcohol
use and abuse.
This activity
will expose girls to information in a non-threatening, fun way. It also
allows them to ask questions they may not normally feel comfortable
asking for fear of being embarrassed.
In this
activity you will set up a panel of substance abuse experts to be interviewed
on your talk show. The girls will host this show and also participate
as the audience.
Before
the show:
- Have
the group write questions they will ask to the expert panel. Encourage
them to ask questions they may already know the answers to - if they
feel the information may be helpful to others. Also encourage them
to brainstorm as many questions as they can, to ensure all topics
are covered on their "show".
- Discuss
the questions and concerns they have regarding drug and alcohol use.
- Delegate
a "host" for your show or have the girls select one.
Your local
substance abuse center or community mental health agency is a great
place to start for the experts on your panel.
Set this
up as a talk show. Have your host introduce the experts. Have the experts
offer some information to the girls. Have your host take "questions
from the audience". Allow the girls to ask questions they thought
of previously or new ones that arose during the "show".
