Some suggestions for professionals who work with girls:
  • Be aware of your personal biases and behavior. Be aware of your "jokes", behaviors, etc.

  • Model respect and caring. Our daily behavior has a much stronger effect than our words.

  • Keep in mind when interacting with others that silence may be interpreted as acceptance. If something is not ok, it is important to respectfully address it.

  • Deal with prejudice in an honest straightforward manner. Address behavior while avoiding personal criticism.

  • Your issues need to be worked on away from the girls you are working with. Work through your issues with your peers or consider professional intervention if necessary.
