Overview
The Multipurpose Juvenile Home Program is designed to provide secure non-institutional alternatives for delinquent youth. The Department contracts with private providers to operate the program. The first six eight-bed facilities opened in 1993.

The Multipurpose Juvenile Home Program which follows the Methodist Model of Care and Treatment for youth is a court-reffered program. The homes provide at least double staff coverage 24 hours a day plus a certified teacher and full-time family counselor, providing up to 30 days of care for youth awaiting trial and up to 240 days for youth on probation as a treatment placement.

Program Organization
N. C. Methodist Homes for Children operates homes located in Alamance, Chowan, Craven, Hertford, Robeson and Wayne counties.

State management and oversight are provided by Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and by an interdisciplinary Statewide Planning Committee. Advisory Committees consisting of judges, court counselors, law enforcement personnel, educators and other local leaders provide local oversight.
