Deputy Secretary,North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
The Deputy Secretary's Office, under the leadership of Dwayne Patterson, is the support arm of the juvenile justice system. This Division assists all DJJDP employees in their efforts to serve youth by providing a qualified workforce, accounting for all fiscal activities, remaining responsive to their inquiries, relaying them to external resources, maximizing internal resources, and directing funds in conjunction with the Departmental mission and goals.
Deputy Secretary Patterson was appointed to the position by Secretary Sweat in December of 2001. "Dwayne is the right man for the job of Deputy Secretary. He is an exceptional leader with invaluable knowledge of the daily operation of DJJDP," said Sweat. " He's a hard, dedicated worker, but more importantly, Dwayne has a strong passion for helping kids in this State. He strongly believes in the mission of the Department."
Deputy Secretary Patterson, a graduate of NC State University with a B.A. in Accounting, has 13 years of Senior Executive Management experience in an operational environment. Since July 2000, Patterson has served as the Assistant Secretary for Administrative Services within DJJDP. He is a native of Kinston. He and his wife, Veronica, have two children.
