Spreading the Good News About North Carolina's State Employees

All too often we read or hear in the news media about a misdeed or offense committed by a state employee. Yet, we all know that state employees perform many, many more positive deeds than they do negative ones. The positive acts of state employees just don’t seem to get any attention. So, the Office of State Personnel is going to spread the good news about state employees.

Champions for Youth PhotosThat’s where Shout Out! comes in. Shout Out! is a way to let North Carolina’s leaders know the great things that state employees are doing at work and in their communities. Shout Out! is simply a timly way to say, “Hey, look what great thing this state employee did.” As a result, maybe the next time one of North Carolina’s leaders learns about a “bad apple,” they’ll also think about the many outstanding state employees who are out there everyday working for our citizens and doing the state’s business efficiently and effectively.

If you know someone who deserves to be recognized, we want to hear about it.

Events/activities that qualify for Shout Out! are a step-above the items of interest that might be publicized in your agency’s internal newsletter. Shout Out! is about the accomplishments, achievements and successes of state employees. Did you just receive your master’s or doctorate degree? Did someone you know spend a week volunteering in our country or another? That’s what we want you to tell Shout Out!

Examples of Shout Out! events include educational accomplishments, civic awards, election to professional association office, unique volunteer activists, heroic acts, NCThinks awards and Governor’s Awards for Excellence.

State employees have got it going on and we want our leaders to hear about it! We look forward to receiving a Shout Out! from you!

See Implementation Guidelines for full details and forms.

Please email your ideas for a "Shout Out!" nominee by completing the form.
