KARMA GARDEN - We Will Reap What We Sow

Annie Hadgkiss, LPC-Senior Mental Health Practitioner at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center had a vision for juveniles at the detention center learning important life lessons through true hands-on experience in a garden at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center. Her work to make this vision become a reality began in August of 2009 with discussions with Eric Naglee, Title I Program Specialist with Guilford County Schools.

 

Lenoir Youth Development Center Pilots Facility Review JCPC

“You know you are witnessing a high quality program when the list of best practices is longer that the list of areas in need of improvement,” stated Dave Hardesty, Quality Management (QM) Consultant for the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention after completing the Pilot Facility Review at Lenoir Youth Development Center.

Department Embarks on PREA Training Effort

In a collaborative effort, The North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and American University’s Washington College of Law, presented the Train the Trainer curriculum for “Building Staff and Youth Capacity to Address Sexual Violence Against Youth in Custody.”  The training was conducted at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC from August 2 through August 4.
