Dillon Students Got Skills!
Students from CA Dillon’s SkillsUSA chapter showed off their abilities at a recent competition in Greensboro. Taking fourth place overall in the SkillsUSA competition and coming only one point short of third place, the young men from Dillon represented their school with honor and class.
The statewide competition took place on April 14-16, 2008. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives who work together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Students from C.A. Dillon YDC participated in the competition entitled "Opening and Closing Ceremonies." This competition demonstrates the contestants’ understanding of the symbolic representation of the colors and assembled parts of the SkillsUSA emblem, as well as teamwork and professional presentation skills. Dillon’s team includes seven registered members filling the roles of president, vice president, parliamentarian, reporter, treasurer, secretary and optional officer.
Mr. Barry Merrell, Auto Technology teacher, serves as the chapter advisor. Merrell along with several other Dillon staff members accompanied the young men to the competition. Merrell stated, “Students spent many hours preparing for the event,” adding, “he and the rest of the staff at Dillon could not have been prouder of how their students competed.”
