Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Efforts to Be Highlighted in Webinar

State and local juvenile justice professionals from across the country will participate in an upcoming webinar on transition practices for youth returning from juvenile facilities.  The webinar, featuring the Department’s Dr. Jane D. Young, Superintendent of Schools for the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, is entitled "Inter-agency Collaboration: An Innovative Transition Practice" and will occur on September 18th from 2:00 to 3:15. 

The webinar will focus on one of the critical components of transition:  coordination. Coordination requires individuals from multiple systems to work together to ensure that a youth involved in the juvenile justice system receives all of the needed support services throughout the process. Learning how to come together and effectively work with other agencies is essential to the educational and life outcomes of youth who are neglected, delinquent, or at-risk of school failure.

The National Evaluation and Technical Assistance Center for the Education of Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, or At Risk (NDTAC) will facilitate the webinar.  This learning opportunity will provide practical strategies to facilitate collaboration among agencies that provide services for youth transitioning through the juvenile justice system. To gain multiple viewpoints, presenters will provide strategies at both the State and local levels.

NDTAC was established in 2002 through support from the U.S. Department of Education (USED). NDTAC serves as a national resource center to provide direct assistance to states, schools, communities, and parents seeking information on the education of children and youth who are considered neglected, delinquent, or at-risk.
