NC-JOIN is the North Carolina Juvenile Online Information Network. As the name indicates, the network is a web-based system that allows DJJDP staff to track the progress and placement of court-involved youth as they proceed through the juvenile justice system.
NC-JOIN places crucial information at the fingertips of court counselors, detention and youth development center staff, and eventually community treatment programs with the purpose of coordinating services to create personalized treatment.
Multiple agencies and programs throughout the state serve juveniles in North Carolina; however, no automated statewide system exists to provide effective and efficient information exchange. NC-JOIN fosters interagency collaboration, eliminating duplication of effort and improving coordination of case management.
Juvenile justice professionals currently record juvenile information using paper forms. In order to transfer current paper records into electronic files, DJJDP staff must compile, enter, and double-check records for accuracy.
NC-JOIN is an asset to those who plan and evaluate programs and services. It is essential to identify who is offending and why they are offending. The more information we have, the more resources we may direct towards crime prevention and intervene in the lives of troubled youth.
