TET is a philosophy not a program. It is a planned, purposeful, professional management of resources to meet the individual and group needs of the youth in our care. Policy, training, management, leadership, family, and community are the six foundational components of this initiative.
The environment is the treatment; therefore every part of the day is planned and implemented to support treatment and development. The therapeutic environment is time, space, and resources which are totally structured to provide a constant and consistent therapeutic experience. All activities and events are carefully planned and carried out to help youth learn how to cope, solve problems, interact, control behaviors, and succeed.
TET involves positive interaction between staff and youth and between staff. A therapeutic environment eliminates boundaries because every staff member is teaching and providing opportunities for youth through the establishment of new patterns of values, thoughts, and behaviors. |
